Abstract

This paper provides an overview of recent perspectives on time as developed since 2015 by various authors in the Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association. In the first part, I focus on the different theoretical-technical aspects of the question. In the second part, I instead concentrate on dying as the process that gives meaning to all previous phases of human existence and, thus, to time itself. The emphasis is on how the analytic relationship can help the patients not only to elaborate the many difficulties inherent to facing death, but also to develop a new form of creativity during the possibly long period prior to the end-of-life date.
